Return

22 December 2009

It’s nearly Christmas. The finish line is in sight. We met in the breakfast room this morning. I tried to make a waffle, forgetting to coat the waffle griddle in spray oil. I ate a muffin with egg and cheese after spending 10 minutes scraping the cooked waffle mix out of deep, roasting hot grooves. Being a vegetarian is working out though. I haven’t had any longing for meat or fish yet.  Will that happen?

The drive back was another marathon 6 hour journey . We learned some new things about eachother, some wholesome, some downright gnarly. I shan’t, however, break our vow of secrecy. What is said in the Ford Explorer, stays in the Ford Explorer.

It was so good to get back to New York. We drove to Emery’s studio in Hoboken. Hoboken is over the river. It is an Italian borough I hear. It’s most famous son is Frank Sinatra. Emery’s place is excellent. They just had a new desk installed. It’s called an Electrodyne. These desks are to be heard on alot of motown records. This particular desk recorded sessions for Who’s Next by The Who and Electric Ladyland by Jimi Hendrix… you know…Motown classics… This evening though it would be mixing Fran Healy and Neko Case.

We left the studio at midnight or 1am . It was nice to get home. Still some little bits to do. It’s nearly done.

I respect the secrecy of the Ford Explorer. I have the same rules in my Subaru. It’s called the Subaru Cone of Silence. Everyone feels quite safe speaking under the Subaru cone of silence and sometimes the stuff that comes out scares me…but stays safe in the station wagon.

can’t wait to hear fran healy and neko case!!! so exciting!

also, i recently became vegetarian too. i decided i should try to be more sustainable, and my body seems to be doing ok with it… i can tell you, as a life-long meat-eater, it wasn’t the easiest thing in the world, but there are a lot of good meat substitutes, which i delve into both for protein and for those meat cravings that inevitably occur….

some advice, at least while you’re in nyc (not sure about german food stores, except aldi, which i’ve never seen carry these things) — find a trader joe’s or whole foods, great quality soy and tofu “meat” products, like breakfast sausage and chicken wings that actually taste enough like the real thing.. i’ve also heard that when you do get meat cravings, you should let yourself eat a little, but i think it’s harder to do that b/c then you let yourself get in the habit… also, some chinese food places have great substitute-meat dishes, where the stuff looks and tastes like peanut chicken but is actually tofu or whatnot, another good little cheat when the soytein and lentil soup just isn’t working for you…

anyway, i’m sure you’ve figured out a lot of stuff that works for you, and hope it goes well!!
take care and lots of luck w/ the rest of the process :)
    much luv xoxo
