This really reminds me of the book “This is Your Brain on Music: The Science of a Human Obsession” by Daniel J. Levitin. If you haven’t already read it, I highly recommend it. My Dad is in advanced stages of Parkinson’s and on a daily basis I am fascinated by the way his brain is (or isn’t) functioning. Maybe we missed our calling?
First off, best wishes to Amy and her father. Parkinson’s is a serious problem the world needs to address, possibly through more stem cell research. (controversial, I know!)
Anyway, the human brain is fascinating. I’ve been having seizures the past year and a half, and although it’s frustrating, it has been quite an experience going through all the neurological tests & discussing things with my neurologist. Dr. C keeps telling me epilepsy might be related to creativity. Not sure if that’s the case or if he’s just trying to humor me ’cause I’m a graphic designer! Either way, the brain is amazing. Thanks for sharing the vid!
The mirror box is fascinating, I’ve nursed patients who have experienced phantom limb pains following amputation and it’s extremely frustrating for them when they cannot rationalise their feelings. It’s common to see lower-leg amputees attempting to put a slipper on an amputated foot as it feels cold. Thanks for this video Fran, I found it very interesting.
