WILD BEASTS IN BERLIN

21 April 2010

Nora and  i went to see Wild Beasts last night at the Lido club on Cuvry Strasse. Andy and I played here 2 years ago for the 25th anniversary of Mr Dead and Mrs Free (Berlins best vinyl store). It’s a great venue. An old cinema I think… The band were on fire. The sound was incredible. It was their last show of the Two Dancers tour. The crowd loved it and made them do 2 encores. After buying teeshirts and vinyl we went back to say hello. They were sweet people. They had the glow only a band who had played their last show of the album could have. It’s a nice feeling. I asked them about this record and their history. Hayden (main singer) and the Drummer Chris have known each other since primary school. They made this current record with nearly zero funds and wrote and recorded it to tape in 6 weeks. Impressive. And having stood on the edge of the precipice following the luke warm sales and reaction to their debut record, were now at a point where they could feel the weather had changed for them. Ahhh so great. After a beer we left. If you don’t have their album. you need to
buy it

I bought their two albums a couple of weeks ago and actually they sound really great. I like “the old dog” and “the fu powder plot” in particular

We went to concert as well; Haydens voice is a mystery to me. How can anyone sing like that?! Although they seemed to be a bit tired at the end of their tour the music was very professional and intense- even the floor was vibrating. I was wondering whether the 2. encore was planned or spontaneous? They appeared to be touched when they finally left the stage.
However, what we least expected this evening was to see you and Nora in the audience. My boyfriend said: “Do you see the guy with the hat sitting next to the DJ? He looks like Fran Healy…” And reading your blog I´m happy and exited to find out that he was right. Next time- after some more “Astra” – we will probably find the courage to say Hi to you.
Have a nice sunny spring weekend, greetings from Schoeneberg

that’s why i like berlin. you can go out to a show and a great singer can stay next to you and you won’t notice it. i was at the show too. great concert. bought the vinyl version. very nice evening.

  5. Speaking of music…if anybody out there is a rock and roll fanatic like me, check out Little Stevens Underground Garage radio show! Truly the last great d.j. (at least here in the states). Its what radio used to be…discovering new music, not a formula forced down your throat, music people, real, true, rock and roll!
