Ridin’
7 July 2010
The past few weeks some friends and I have been biking round Manhattan. On our first trip we cycled up the east river from lower east side right up to 110th street and across to the west side and back down the Hudson as the sun set. We stopped off at Patsy’s Pizzaria on 118th and 1stAve for a slice of the best pizza in all of Manhattan. Sinatra ordered 100 pizzas to be flown to him in California back in the day. That’s some greedy shit…
Our second trip went straight up the middle of Manhattan, through central park and back down the Hudson again. We stopped to pay respects at the Dakota and then rode to the great lawn and lay there a while in the balmy air, observing the mating rituals of the young and viril, a girly photo shot, frizbee couple, softball dads.
The Park That Is Central

Wow! That pizza must be so damn delicious!
BTW, those are some beautiful, lovely photographs.
Wow! I’d like to follow your course and have a bite of Patsy’s. BTW, what was your camera? It reminds me of Lomo’s Diana F+ camera that I have and not in use. I love the cozy lights of sunset.
Fran says ” its the hipstamatic app on the iphone”
Oooh I like the photos Fran. The second photo is quite awesome. What camera(s) were you using?
Sinatra, what a greedy bitch.
gosh, this revived my love for photography. lost interest for quite a while. next weekend will be bonding time with me dslr. thaaanks!
Great photos – looks like you’re having fun
Sounds cool! Cycling is a great idea in hot weather, I suppose it’s not too hilly in New York? Are bikes popular there?
I visited your other hometown last week, and there were a lot of bikes. It’s pretty flat, so it’s not too much like hard work there. Do you ride a bike in Berlin? The hill in Prenzlauerberg seemed rather nasty, not too steep, but long. On top of it we found a great Biergarten, Prater (Kastanienallee). It was hot in Berlin, too, + 36 °C, much too hot to watch football out in the open. The party after the Germany-Argentina match was quite amazing, people took over Ku’damm.
Very cool photos. Are you taking this from your phone? It looks like the Hipstamatic App. I don’t know much about it, other than it makes your pics look cool.
Thanks for sharing!
Fran says ” Yes It’s hipstamatic!”
Beautiful photos!
Greaaaaaaaat pics! I’m going to NY city for the first time in 15 days!!! So this comes in VERY handy!
Abrazos
Could I just say that the recent batch of photos made me feel oozy and like I was filled with drugs? Sorry, I just don’t like that kind of light. Just thought I’d throw that in there since everybody else seems to love it. You’re still a hero for me though.
Fran Says “I put them up to show where we’d been. I didn’t put them up to be praised or to be pooped. You sound like a fanny. Go and be a fanny somewhere else… What a fan dan“
Lovely pics Fran, they have an old-world quality to them, especially those last two. It sounds like you had a good time. Bike rides let you see and feel so much more that being behind the wheel of a car. Thanks for posting them.x
I know why you put the pictures up. I wasn’t taking a jab at the places you’ve been. They’re cool. I just commented on the lighting of photos themselves, which has nothing to do with you, but rather the iphone app.
If you “didn’t put them up to be praised or to be pooped” why did you get so defensive? Geez!
Fran Assuming I’m defensive takes the sting out of being told your behaviour is uncouth. But I’m not defensive about my iphone pictures because they are shitty iphone pictures. Who cares? What I do care about are good manners. I abhor rudeness. This is why I wrote back to you. You’re one of ‘them’.
Hey, Fran! It’s good to see you (and the site) back and it’s great that you’re having a nice time. I really liked the photos. My favourites are the last two. Thanks for sharing.
what up Fran
photos of Spanish Harlem look great!
It looks like you have great time .) There is some kind of warmth in these photos, it’s something like when I was much younger there was a stationery where I live and I always buy postcards from there, they were making me feel like a burning fireplace when there was snow outside. Ehehe something like that, or it’s only the light .)
Nice to read what you write and nice to see the photos you take! Thank you .)
fight…?!
peace…!!!
Pretty awesome you took those from your phone. I think they’re great! Hope you’re well, Fran! Can’t wait for new music!
Dearest Fran,
The iPhone App of which you speak sounds smashing. I look forward to availing myself of said app at my earliest convenience, although I must say I could never do justice to it as you’ve done here.
Couthly Yours,

lovely photos fran!
You know, I wasn’t going to respond to your last repsonse but you took things WAY out of context, so I feel I’m desrved the right to explain. Call me rude. I don’t give a shit. But let it be known you dug in with the ‘fanny’ calling and false assumptions. Pretty rude on your part. You got defensive because I suggested you were being just that. Hypocricy and snobbery are in the same court as rudeness. Think about that and then have the last word.
I also don’t care if this isn’t posted or if I’m band from coming here ever again. I’m going to buy and enjoy your new record so good luck.
I’m not offering an apology here either. The use of words is a powerful thing, and if I’ve told you what I wrote in a face to face conversation, rather than through this machine, I’m hopeful that you would have known where I was coming from, or at least have it fly. End of.
This makes me really want to go back to New York for a visit. I love it there. Especially Central Park. I could spend the whole day there. How fun to go cycling there and see it all a bit differently. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Fran!
Beautiful photos, I specially like the composition of the Central Park one.
Thanks for sharing
Hey Fran, your photos are really wonderful… hope you’ll share some others again ! Nice to have some news from you, and keep biking x
