Long Time No Write

8 June 2011

April and May saw me fall off the radar. Me, Nora and Clay went on holiday to St Barths for 4 weeks. I never went on a long holiday like this before. Never really been a holiday person. Lately, though, i turned over a new leaf. It was a cool cool trip. Clay is getting so big. Such a lovely boy. We swam in the sea every day and played so much I kind of needed another holiday when we got back… haven’t gotten round to that yet… Been trying to find a room in Berlin where I can write and make stuff… I have a great room in the basement which I recorded Wreckorder… it’s nice although I need to get proper AC as it heats up soo much. But with a view to getting another room, it was mostly to get out of the house. Change the back drop. When I am off the road, my day goes something like this… 8am wake up…9am drive Clay to kinderladen…10-11am have coffee in Kreuzberg 12pm get home… 3.30pm go and pick Clay up 5-8 family hang and dinner followed by Clay bedtime which reminds me of trying to give our old cat “Amby” a bath. I get around 3 hours to “be creative” in the afternoon then after Clay goes to bed I usually start fiddling at 9pm till 2 or 3am. I’m looking in Kreuzberg so I can go there after kinderladen drop off. It’s exciting to be looking for a place to turn into a workspace. It’s gonna be cool. Kreuzberg is a great part of Berlin. Man i’m tired… I gonna sleep but I shall return… hopefully not in a month.

Oh yeah and the Travis shows were alot of fun.

Great idea to look for space — following the rhythms of a day spent with children can become delightfully consuming. Keep the creative process going — so many people out here who enjoy all your work!
    Happy summer!

Glad to see you are atleast beginning to get creative. its been 3 years since Travis last gave us a treat man. almost 3 years anyway. Glad you had a time out with family. Hopefully you will get the perfect words soon for new songs and record them quickly like with the J. Smith album. Early 2012 new travis album?

Last year I was in Berlin but you had left 2 months before I arrived there. I always longed for a cup of coffee with you and now I am amazed to hear you go to Kreuzberg for coffee! To Turkish district of Berlin! I can’t believe that! I wish I were there too, now I am sure I will be seeing Berlin again in my dream tonight!

    Hey Fran

Hope you are able to find a great workspace. Seems now like you have some good balance at life and home. May the workspace be a great place of inspiration! See you soon in NYC hopefully.

Getting a new recording space sounds fun. Hope you don’t go to sleep at 3am too often when you’ve to be up at 8am the following morning though dude, you’ve gotta be trying to get your 8 hours! 😉

Glad to hear you got some well earned rest and family time Fran, nothing quite compares to it does it? Good to see you back here though 🙂 Good luck with finding your own wee space for writing, it will feel like going out to work and coming home at home time, just like a normal life 🙂 Look forward to the next chapter!!

    Hi Fran…

I know if I have too much time not writing and it is wonderful to know you and your family, and it went on holiday even though you’re not a man and deserved vacations are better than your family must be great the moments with Nora and Clay … of course I think it must be charming Nora and your doing a great job as parents … a new stage in your life. Creating a workspace seems great to see how it looks like me …

    P. D. Amby is a beautiful cat …
